On the water that reflects centuries of memory, a bridge extends, appearing to rise more from thought than from the ground, deeply integrated into the urban landscape of Venice. Serving as the private entrance to Casa Sanlorenzo, the bridge leads directly to the historic 1940s building, brought back to life as part of the cultural program of Sanlorenzo Arts. Redesigned specifically for the restoration project, it was conceived as a custom-built structure, assembled on site with absolute respect for the environment and for the proportions of its context.

The “humpback” structure is made entirely of metal: along the curve of the arch, steps in Istrian stone, traditional Venetian masegni, follow one another, treated to ensure durability and safety even in adverse weather conditions. A wooden handrail, inspired by the shape of an oar, accompanies its sinuous line, evoking the ancient gesture of navigation. Its anatomy reflects a balance between function and beauty, between construction innovation and the memory of tradition.

Conceived also as a cultural bridge, the structure becomes a metaphor for the meeting of eras and languages, of art and industry, of past and future: a place where rigor and lightness, technology and craftsmanship coexist in an architectural gesture that renews the very idea of crossing.

Thus, in its apparent simplicity, the bridge reveals the complexity of Venice: a city that continues to reflect itself in its waters and in the forms that narrate it. A bridge that does not impose, but belongs; that connects, welcomes, and invites passage as an act of shared culture and beauty.

The bridge is conceived as both a sculptural and structural element, entirely fabricated in burnished AISI 316 stainless steel, selected for its durability, strength, and refined material quality.

The internal load-bearing structure, composed of welded steel beams, is fully integrated into the overall design and has been verified, certified, and tested in compliance with current regulations, including foundations and all related works.

The underside of the bridge is solid and enclosed, with a donkey-back profile, lending visual solidity and formal continuity to the structure, while also ensuring protection and clean, uninterrupted lines. The walking surface is clad in solid anti-slip Istria stone, a noble and timeless material chosen for its high resistance to wear and its natural suitability for outdoor environments.

The parapet is conceived as an element of high artisanal precision: vertical posts machined from solid sections, custom-turned and milled in burnished AISI 316 stainless steel, accommodating 6 mm horizontal stainless steel cables and a stainless steel mesh, ensuring transparency, safety, and visual lightness.

Completing the structure, the handrail in teak wood, with a custom-designed oval section, introduces a warm and natural material component, specifically treated for outdoor use, creating a refined balance between metal, stone, and wood.
